BlackWing Builders operates in regions that are in the midst of dramatic change. Very often this means new construction in previously rural areas that have been rezoned for residential and commercial use. Water run-off, habitat preservation, emissions and indoor air quality are key considerations.

At the same time, our clients deserve exceptional environmental performance and their tenants deserve outstanding energy efficiency. Additionally, investors, policymakers and trade associations are becoming more sophisticated when it comes to environmental impact in both the construction and the overall energy performance of new buildings.

We’ve built more Energy-Star certified buildings in the last decade right here in the Midwest than many larger builders in much larger markets around the country — over 526 to be exact.

Put these forces together and you’ll find BlackWing right at the center. Our record in sustainability is proven. We have built more Energy-Star certified buildings in the last decade right here in the Midwest than many other larger builders in much larger markets around the country — over 526 in total. In addition, we’ve earned multiple Energy-Star honors from the EPA in the last several years, including:

  • 2014 Energy Star Certified Homes Market Leader Award
  • 2012 Energy Star for Homes Leadership in Housing Award
  • 2011 Energy Star for Homes Leadership in Housing Award

BlackWing blazed the trail for LEED certification in our region with the development of the first income-based LEED certified complex in the state of South Dakota.

BlackWing embraces its responsibility to build to strong green standards. It’s a posture that represents our attitude towards our profession and our clients’ well being.

It’s also why we’ve blazed the trail for LEED certification in our part of the business with the development of the Monterey Apartments, the first income-based LEED certified complex in South Dakota.

The “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” program is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the United States Green Building Council (USBBC), which provides third-party certification that a building or community has been designed and built using strategies that improve performance in:

  • energy savings
  • water efficiency
  • CO2 emissions reduction
  • indoor air quality
  • stewardship of resources

BlackWing is committed to lead the green movement in building practices. It perfectly matches the value system we bring to every project.
